I purchased FSD back in 2018 for $2,000, but FSD was just a future promise back then. For years, I didn’t recommend buying it as the price skyrocketed to a whopping $15,000. FSD has gotten exponentially better since then.
Earlier this year, Tesla removed the ability to purchase FSD and now sells it as a $99/month subscription. It’s a great value at that price!
I traded in my 7-year-old Model 3 for a Model Y last year, thanks to a boatload of incentives. Along with that, I was able to transfer my FSD to the new car. The new Model Y is a truly impressive and refined car and ride experience, and I’m thrilled with the upgrade! Plus, it has all of the niceties of electric cars, with instant torque, practically no maintenance requirements, keyless entry, and best of all, never needing to buy gas.
Over recent years, FSD has transformed from a gimmick into a truly incredible service. It can finally drive from coast to coast without intervention. It’s a real pleasure to be driven door to door on short-haul and long-haul trips with today’s FSD. You arrive at your destination without any of the fatigue that comes from driving. I now take day trips I previously wouldn’t have considered, thanks to FSD.
FSD is also significantly safer than manual driving, with nearly an order of magnitude fewer accidents than in other cars:

In the past, I would never use FSD for short drives, but it has improved to the point where it’s now my private chauffeur, and I use it on every drive. It’s truly life-changing, and it only gets better with each update!
I suppose the only question is, how long will it be until manual driving is no longer allowed? A Tesla with FSD is now 9 times safer than other cars, and that’s mostly due to the fault of the manually driven car. Some 40,000 Americans die annually in car accidents. That number would drop significantly if everyone used FSD. And FSD keeps improving and getting even safer over time.
The only shame is that Tesla still doesn’t make a minivan that could accommodate a large family, which is surprising given Elon Musk’s frequent request to repopulate the world and his own 14 kids. Alas, the lack of a Tesla van is why my wife still drives an Odyssey for now. Tesla does have the Model YL, though that can only accommodate up to 6 passengers.
